What is the iShield Key Pro USB / NFC Security Key
It is a multifunctional FIDO2 USB / NFC Certified Security Key that can be use as a passkey when authenticating to FIDO compatible online services (Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Dropbox, Bank of America, Paypal, etc)
It is made in Germany by Swissbit AG which is the leading European manufacturer of storage, security and embedded IoT solutions for demanding applications.
Basically, when you are triying to access a FIDO compatible online account, you’ll be asked to insert and touch (USB) or tap (NFC) your registered key
As you could see this Key has several connectivity capabilities that allows the greatest compatibility you can find in a security key.
- USB: this key comes in two models one with USB-A and other with USB-C conection.
- NFC: Pro model is NFC capable so you can authenticate when accesing the compatible service using your NFC Capable mobile phone.

It enables you to use this passkey for multifactor or passwordless authentication in FIDO compatible services like Google, Microsoft, Duo Security, Bank of America, Facebook, Dropbox, Paypal, iCloud etc.
Every service has its own procedure but the general steps are essencially the same:
STEP 1: Set up your PIN
The PIN is a number stored locally inside the Key and it’s used to unlock your key before a FIDO 2 / WebAuthn Authentication. By default this is a 6 digit number and is used to authenticate to the ishiel key
The best way to set up this PIN is to use the application Swissbit provide Called iShield Key Manager that is available for Windows, Linux and MacOS and you can download here

Important: In Windows, the iShield key Manager must be run with administrator privilege
As a secondary procedure, you can also use your Desktop Operating System or Chrome Browser to set up this PIN.
Step 2: Register you key in your Online Account and Sign in
Once your PIN is ready, you can register your key in all your FIDO Compatible Service. I recommend to register at least 2 keys in order to have a backup device or generate and secure store your recovery codes
Please remember that every service provider has its own procedure, here you have the general steps:
- Go to the Security Options in the account settigns
- Look for sign in options, adding a security key or Two Step Verification to add the iShield FIDO2 Security Key
- Follow the service provider instructions
Note: Setup instructions might differ from web service to web service as de registration process is defined by de service provider.
